Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota

Verbal Abuse/Harassment

I have a friend in Mn who is having a severe problem, it will take more than this space to explain the whole situation. Currently she is stuck there due to loss of job, her landlord - she rents a room - is extremely verbally abusive and refuses to help her in any way, she knows no one in town and is not able to return home. Her landlord invades her room when she's not there and invades her privacy by deleting things from her laptop. The police will do nothing because he has not touched her, yet in my opinion he's basically keeping her prisoner there and will not do anything but help as long as he gets his rent from her. I don't know what to do to help. She has very little money and no transportation and is trying to find a new job - but again the transportation is a problem. She explained that if she calls the police for domestic abuse that in Mn they arrest both parties where she is the victim and is extremely frightened for her safety and will not call and will not allow me to call.

Re: Verbal Abuse/Harassment

I could help but I can't afford to do pro bono (free services) at this stage.

I you in a position to cover her legal fees?

I have a client who can provide low cost single room housing (former hotel).

What is she paying now for rent?

Why isn't she working?

Is she getting General Assistance?

Call or email me Monday.

I would do this on a reduced hourly rate with an upfront retainer.
