Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Minnesota
Am I required?
I'm not sure if I'm in the right category...so here it goes.
A friend of mine had her car repo-ed. As I was living w/ her at the time, I carpooled w/ her for 4 months. I lost money doing so ($1-200 a payperiod, for 4 months), and she knew this. She has not lived w/ me for some time. As a result of me driving her around for some time, I had no money to pay for the first months rent, nor the deposit. So when we moved, she paid for it, in return for the transportation. Now she is demanding that I pay this money back. Am I required to do so? Eventhough there was never an agreement on it? And at the time she stated that it was fine. What am I supposed to do? I really don't have the money to do this.

To be honest, this is the sort of situation that people work out between themselves. There is an old expression that, translated from latin, means "the law does not concern itself with trifles."
I don't mean to suggest that this situation isn't important to you and your friend. I'm sure it is. I also don't mean to make light of your financial situation or hers, whatever that may be.
It's just that to get the courts involved in a dispute this small would probably end up costing both of you more than you are fighting over. I'm sure that if you are both reasonable and talk the situation over, you can come to an agreement between yourselves.
