To avoid problem moved away to other side of bar and informed bartender that I was being harassed. at one point said female approched wife and myself spilling drink on wife and punching me on the side of the head/face leaving cut on face.
Left and called police from home and reported assault to police.
What action can I take against female/bar if any.

Re: Assaulted in bar, can I sue
Yes you can sue, but winning anything might be another matter. Finding a lawyer who would take the case would be another matter. I didn't hear anything about stitches, a trip to the hospital or a permanent scar in your story. Factors like that could make a differnce.
When things take place in an establishment which is serving liquor for financial gain, and the injured party is a business invitee as your were, the standard of care is quite high for the business owner. The owner is responsible to make sure the place is properly supervised. That's why the bouncer is there.
So you may be able to sue the bar owner and the person who assaulted you; but frankly unless there is more to the story, I would not want to take the case. The only case like this which I have ever accepted is one where my client was knocked out and left the bar in an ambulence; and woke up in the hospital several days later; and missed work for several weeks; and had memory loss and dizziness and on and on (somebody broke a beer bottle over his head).
There are young and hungry personal injury lawyers who will talk with you about this for free. Look in the yellow pages.
Good luck.
