Legal Question in Personal Injury in Minnesota

Sledding on my property

Hi:

I am located in Minnesota. I just bought a house on 2.5 acres within city limits. I have a very nice, long hill on my property. Well, rumor has it, that this is the hot spot for sledding, cars will park on the highway and kids will come sledding here.... Well, it is dark out now and there are kids out there sledding. I dont want to be a scrooge, since I have my own kids, 11 and 13 who enjoy this hill. I am concerned about someone getting hurt. They come here when I am at work, after dark, what are my responsibilities as a homeowner?

You are correct to be concerned. If an injury occurs on yoiur property due to negligence, a claim could be made against you and your homeowners policy. That is particularly true if you are aware that the sledding is occurring.

Posting a no trespassing sign would certainly be advisable as well as taking other actions to preclude such behavior.
