Legal Question in Personal Injury in Minnesota

Can We Sue for Defamation of Character?

Recently, My younger sister in law filed a law suit against my father in law for child abuse. She is 16 years old. The abuse did not happen and she has fabricated numerous stories about my father in law abusing her and threatening to kill her. My father in law owns his own business in the community and he is starting to get calls at home about the accusations. My husband is a teacher in the area and has had comments made to him about the current situation. Can my father in law sue his daughter for defamation of character? The accusations are verbal as well as in writting.

If the allegations are not correct he may be able to bring a claim. I would advise contacting an attorney in your area to discuss this matter in greater detail. You should be aware that there may be limitations on the period of time to bring a claim and your father in law should act immediately to preserve his rights.

I want to make it clear that my office does not handle matters such as this and we are not representing you or your father in law on any matter.

Good luck
