Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Minnesota

Collecting on vet bills

My neighbors dog (who was running loose in the neighborhood) came into our yard and attacked my dog ultimately causing $3000 in vet bills and daily/weekly vet visits for 3 months. They gave me $500 right after the attack happened but now they say they don't have money to cover the remaining amount. Just wondering what recourse I would have - someone told me to look into putting a lien on their home/property. I put all charges on a credit card where finance charges will start accruing in a few months. Am I able to ask for time/gas reimbursement for all the vet visits we were required to make?

Re: Collecting on vet bills

You remedy is to sue in small claims (conciliation court) to seek a Judgement against them for the damages. You may include gas for the veternary appointments, but not for time.
