What can I do if my daughters friend, lost my daughters $500 Ipod?

I am assuming both girls are minors. You could take it to conciliation court for the replacement value. You should seriously consider the time and effort that will be required, and more importantly how would this affect your daughter's relationship with her friend. It is probably not worth it. Your best bet would probably be explaining the situation to the girl's parents and ask if the would be willing to chip in to buying another one.
