Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Minnesota

Family Feud

My grandpa owned a lake cabin and a couple years ago my aunt had him sign it over to be in her and my mom's name. After looking at other posts, I'm not sure if they are co-owners or in a partnership or what the details there are. But my grandpa has lived with my mom and I and we have taken care of him for over 20 years. My mom has paid for most of the expenses and upkeep of the cabin along with my grandpa. My aunt has never paid a dime on it and has only been there once a year.

My grandpa has recently passed away and she wants to sell it and get half the money. We will never sell. I'm guessing she can force us to sell, but I'm wondering if she will be guaranteed half. If we prove we've been paying for things does that help us at all. I would like to buy her out, but there is no way I can afford half. Can a judge determine what % of the value she would get?

You have quite a few issues here. Among other things, you need to know what the ownership interests are, how the property is owned, how much was paid and by whom, etc. There simply is no good answer based on what I see here. There would need to be quite a bit more work done to figure out what is best for you.
