Foreclosure on a rental property

We were just served with a foreclosure notice on the home that we rent. My question is, why do we have to continue to pay rent if the landlord is not paying the mortgage with the money? I am concerned that he doesn't have our deposit any longer.

By your zip code, I assume you live in Minneapolis. I suggest you talk to the Home Preservation Project of the Legal Aid Society. In general terms, I would think about starting a rent escrow action and perhaps trying to intervene in the foreclosure.
