Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Minnesota
Not married, bought a house together, how do I get out?
I purchased a home in 1999 with the man I had been living with. The home is in both of our names along with the mortgage. I can no longer live with the way he treats me and the things he does. How do I get him to sell the house so that I can leave??

I am assuming you title as tenants in common. There is a formal proceedure to divide the interest: partition. It must be done via a lawsuit. Short of that, perhaps pressure can be applied based on obligations to make mortgage and tax payments and upkeep. You need to retain an attorney to review what leverage you have and to help you start a partition action if that is necessary.
Keep in mind that even if you are off the title, that does not automatically relieve you of the mortgage loan. Part of the plan must include paying off the loan or getting the bank to take you off the note.
