Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Minnesota

Overdue property taxes

I refinanced my home in July 2001. In October a new company took over my mortgage. My property taxes have always, and still are, escrowed by the mortgage company. They have not paid the balance of my 2001 taxes and I am getting deliquent notices from the county. I have contacted the company and have been told they will handle the problem immediately. 10 days ago they said they had sent the taxes overnight delivery. They lied! Nothing has been received by the county. Aside from filing a complaint with the Attorney Generals office, do I have any other legal options available? Can I file a civil suit for damages?

Re: Overdue property taxes

The first place I would call would be the Minnesota Department of Commerce, banking division. The person there to talk to is Robin Brown. Her number is 651-282-9855. I bet she would have a pretty good idea of what to do.

Sometimes the practice of law is more who can I call than what do I know.

Yes you could sue them, you can always sue anybody, but I would see what the government agencies can do for you first.
