Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Minnesota

I purchased my home in 2000, which included an detached 2 car

garage in my yard. a few months ago i received a letter for the city saying that my detached garage was built without a permit.

i submit a copy of the building permit from the city and an inspection approval letter from the city after it was built in the

year 1988 by the original owners.

my neighbors claimed that this structure in 18 inches into his proerty and i should move it.

since it was built 30 yrs ago with a permit, should this grandfather in any building codes.

my neighbor now is pursuing this matter to court for me to move this structure.
