Unfortunately, most of the facts you state seem to have little to do with your question (i.e. paying rent, taking care of the couple.) Basically, your personal items are on someone else property. Obviously, he does not have to store your property forever. He may be able to sell the items if you fail to remove them in a timely manner. The notice seems reasonable. There is probably very liltte you can do to prevent him from going through your stuff since he has an interest in knowing what exactly is there. If there were illegal drugs or contraband he could be held responsible. If anything is missing you could take him to court. I recommend that you get your property out of there as soon as possible.
