Statute of Limitation
I was audited back in 1996 for the 1993 tax year, due to misreading the tax booklet when I still resided in Minnesota. I have an out standing tax debt. How long if any statute of limitations is on something like this.

Re: Statute of Limitation
The Internal Revenue Code provides a statute of limitations on collection of ten years measured from the date the tax is assessed. But be careful. Many things can extend this ten year period. You can call the IRS and ask for the "CSED" or "collection statute expiration date." For more on the statute of limitations, see the article on this subject I wrote for the Maryland Society of Accountants. It is posted in the "articles" section of my firm's website at www.bjhaynes.com.
