Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota
In early October 2010, I received a speeding ticket, which I am fighting. I had until December to pay or appeal, and I appealed. I showed up expecting to see the judge (it had been almost 3 months), but my case wasn't even on the docket. I was told I would that I would have to complete paperwork. By mail, I was given a date in April 2011.
In February 2011, I received a letter from Steele County stating the trial date was pushed back to July 2011...9 MONTHS AFTER GETTING THE TICKET. (Owatonna, MN 55060/Steele County)
Can they do this?
Note: I live in Blue Earth County, 45 miles away.

Yes, given how backed up the legal system is, this delay is not surprising. You may be able to make a motion for a speedy trial, but that won't likely change anything.
