Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota

My name is Nicholas. I am seeking some advice regaurding a traffic violation. I have 3 DUI's and my license is cancelled at this point. In order to get it back I have to complete some requirements. 1) Complete a outpatient treatment program. 2) Get 5 letters from people stating they know me and know I have been sober for more than a year. 3) obstain from drinking the rest of my life to have a drivers license. 4) Complete a MADD impact pannel. 5) 3 months of AA meetings prior to reinstatement. I have all completed except the AA meetings and I am working on those now. Last summer, I received a ticket for driving after revocation on my way to work. I had to pay a large fine. This past weekend, I drove a friends vehicle because he was drunk. I was pulled over for going through a light while it was yellow. They were doing an abundance of pull overs enforcing DUIS that evening. Luckily I have abstained from drinking. I was arrested, taken to jail, booked, and released. The cop told me he was going to write a written complaint and I would receive something in the mail. I have researched what some possible punishments may be. My plan of attack is complete the AA meetings and try to reinstate my license before I receive the complaint and have to appear in court. Hoping the Judge will give me a break. I realize with my driving record and the situation, I may not be that lucky. Do you have any advice that you can give me regarding the matter?

At this point, based on the limited information, the best advice that can be given is to continue your plan to complete the AA meetings. I would suggest you bring an attorney with you if at all possible. It would be best to sit down with an attorney before hand to review your record and see the best course of action from there.

I would note that there is a new interlock system being put into place on July 1st. If your problems have not been solved by then, it would be a good thing to look into.

Also - stop driving while your license is revoked. It may only be to get your drunk friend home but every time you do that, you are going to risk having to wait a longer time to get your license, more criminal charges on your record, and more money out of your pocket.
