Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota
Police Harassment
Recently while on a drive to visit my parents, my fiance and I were pulled over for ''failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk'' which neither of us saw. My problem with this is that the police officer took my license and later asked me to step out of the vehicle and stand back by his car. He asked me ''what was really going on here today'' and I stated that we were just driving to my parents house to do laundry. He said ''no whats going on?'' I didnt know what he was getting at,he said ''where you doing something to him?'' (meaning my fiance still seated in the car) I finally realized that he wanted to know if I was giving my fiance oral sex while he was driving! He didnt give me any reason as to why he believed this and went over to the car to talk to my fiance and ask him the same question. I found out after we drove away that the reason he asked this question was based on the fact that my fiances zipper was broken and the officer saw that and assumed that was my fault! I feel very ashamed and disgraced by this whole thing, and the more I think about it, the angrier I get. Do I have any rights in the way that we were treated? I would have been happy with an apology for the accusation, but now Im very upset.

Alleged misconduct by a police officer may be reported to the Internal Affairs division of the police department. They investigate such things and take appropriate action if warranted.
