Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota
I received a ticket for "texting while driving" in Minnesota. I told the officer that I was not texting, that I was dialing a phone number that was not preset in my phone. He gave the ticket to me anyway and said "It sure looked liked you were texting". He was merely passing me briefly. I really do not have the time to go to court to plead not guilty, but I am not guilty of texting. If there was a law against using a cell phone to call someone while driving, then I would be guilty, but there is not a law against dialing a person on your cell phone. What is the best thing for me to do? I am 41 years old, not a teenager. Statue 169.475 says nothing about dialing or entering a phone number. Why should I have to pay a fine and possibly have insurance points against me for something I did not do...just to avoid going to court?

If you don't want to go to court, or hire a lawyer, then you have to pay the fine. You could go to court, or hire lawyer who could resolve it without a trip to court.
