Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota
Speeding Ticket in Ramsey County
I have just received my first speeding ticket in MN (70 in a 60) and would like to know what I can do to get my points reduced or my case dismissed. Thanks for your help!

Re: Speeding Ticket in Ramsey County
You want to see if you can plead guilty to driving 64 miles per hour in the 60 mile zone. Under Minnesota Statutes Sec. 171.12, Subd. 6, you would still have to pay a fine but it would not go on your driving record.
This is a little loophole that a lot of folks don't know about. Less than 5 miles over in a 60 zone, or less than 10 miles per hour over in a 55 zone, and it stays off your record.
