Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota
Traffic Stop
My son was stopped in Minnesota for a random license plate check. Is this a legal reason for a traffic stop. There was no other reason given however the car has 4 teens it in and he feels that was really the reason he was pulled over.

Re: Traffic Stop
Police may set up a check point where they check everyone going by that point. This is sometimes done along the border with Wisconsin at the end of holiday weekends.
But it is not OK for them to just stop someone for no reason at random. If your son was stopped and then charged with something under those circumstances, there may be a chance of getting the charges dismissed for lack of probable cause.
