Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota

vehicle accident

I was recently rear-ended while stopped at a red light. After speaking with police, the officer decided the damage was light enough that no report was needed and we could handle the resolution ourselves. The bumper received minor damage and the estimate for repairs totalled $661.00. I had previous light damage to the bumper in an entirely different portion and I was adament that the estimate only include fixing the damage caused by the most recent accident. My question is this: Does the party who rear-ended me still have a legal obligation to pay the $660.00 repair bill even though the bumper was previously damaged?

Re: vehicle accident

The person who struck your vehicle would be responsible for the value of any necessary repairs even if there was preexisting damage.

You should file your claim in Conciliation Court.
