How can I legally change my name?

File a petition with the district court. If it's Hennepin County, forms may be available from the clerk's office. There will be a hearing, and you must appear with at least two witnesses who can identify you. This is to keep people from changing someone else's name (it's been done).

If the clerk's office does not have the forms, you can get them from miller-davis (look them up).

Most people are able to do the procedure on their own without a lawyer. You have to have a good reason, but almost any good reason will do. You must also show that you are not currently on probation or parole, and that you are doing it in good faith and not to defraud creditors.
