Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Minnesota

county assistance money

my mother passed. I was doing her bills on a joint account with her for 6 years. I was told I could have been paid a fee for doing this. Does her account go to the county or to me? it is only $2400.00, it is all she had, social security went to nursing home, all but a small amount a month for her private spending.

Re: county assistance money

My advice would be to take the money first and see if the county asks you for it later. If you don't hear from them, consider it yours. That is a very small sum and not enough to get too concerned about.

Unless your name is on that account, you may need a document called an Affidavit to Collect Assets. If you can't get one anywhere else, call me.
