should he notify credit card companies of upcoming probate

my mother died 4 years ago when she died she had several credit cards in only her name and my dad told those companies that there was nothing to probate so he didn't have to pay the balances of the cards that were only in my moms name my grandmother died in may and the farm she owned was sold and the profit from it divided between her surviving children and my dad and he now has to go thru probate before he can collect his share is he required to notify the credit card companies now that there is a large amount of money in probate?

If I understand this correctly, you want to know if the fact that your grandmother's estate is in probate has anything to do with creditors who were owed money by your mother. I can't see how it could. Legally they are not related. Your grandmother's estate is only liable for the debts of your grandmother, not anybody else's including your mother.

If your Dad receives a good inheritance, that does not make him liable for his deceased spouse's old credit card debt.
