paying new expenses that are 11 months old
My uncle was in a nursing home prior to death last year from Feb. thru date of death being 6/21/02. I was told he was ''covered under medicare'' and paid bills I was given once medicare ran out. In January, 2003 I went to this medical center to check status of hospital bills and was told I had an outstanding nursing home bill (being the medicare copayment which no one ever informed me of) in the sum of $7,000. Because I never knew about this bill I did not apply for veteran's benefits and I also could have made different living arrangements for my uncle. Do I have to pay this bill as it was sent more than 4 months after the legal publication of notice to creditors in a newspaper. I tried writing the nursing home but they will not budge.

It appears you are handling this matter pro se (by yourself), therefore since you are representing yourself (the estate) I suggest you go contact your local library and conduct legal research on this issue otherwise hire an attorney. These issues are being aggressively prosecuted by these agencies now.
