1. Investigate facts identifying things involved,necessary relief, and people involved.

2. Develop chronology of events in as much detail as possible.

3. Brainstorm on potential legal and equitable causes of action based on initial investigation.

4. Research law for elements of proof for each potential cause of action.

5. Compare facts with elements of proof, and make inquiries for any additional evidence on weak elements.

6. Prepare complaint based on analysis.

7. File complaint with civil coversheet with the clerk of the court, along with a summons, service of process declaration for the process server to complete, copies for the defendants, filing fee, and fee for the process server.
