Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi
On August 15, 2009 I had a going away party at my house (6208 Ridge Road) for a few friends going away to college within the next couple of days. Many people attended. I decided to go to bed around 2:30 AM. I let the few people who were still there know that they could stay the night if they chose. The next morning I woke up to an empty house. I cleaned up the place and went in to work. A few days later I found out from word of mouth that two golf-carts from the clubhouse were in my garage. I leave my garage unlocked because there is no way to lock the doors that roll up. They said that Madison and Jordan had stolen them and were storing them there. I called them and confronted them about it and asked them to get them out immediately. They came within the next couple of days and took them up to their colleges. I was at work at the time so I am not sure exactly when they came and removed them.
I just need to know if there is anything that I can do to help my boyfriend and myself? I dont want to plead guilty if I dont have to. I am willing to hire a lawyer if necessary.

You did not state that you were charged with a crime nor reference the specific crime you may be accused of committing. However, if you knew nothing of the theft and did nothing to participate in any cover-up or the movement of the carts later you should hire competent criminal defense counsel to defend you from any charges which may be pending. There is a chance that whatever charges may be pending could be "non-adjudicated" and you would not suffer from having a permanent criminal record.
