Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi

Conviction of Rape and Kidnapping

When I was 21 years of age I was convicted of an alleged Rape and kidnapping charge. Never having been in trouble before, I was advised by counsel to plead guily to a 15 year sentence. I served 6 1/2 years before being released from prison. I am now 38 years old and a registered sex offender living in the State of Michigan. Since being released from prison I have obtained a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Accounting and I am thinking of pursing my CPA. I have had problems obtaing top-notch jobs or securing them. I want to know if there is any legal remedies available for Expungment or Pardon for my situation.

Re: Conviction of Rape and Kidnapping

As you could see by searching the Q&A Database (under Michigan criminal law for "expungment" or "setting aside a conviction"), we have answered a lot of similar questions. The bottom line problem you are going to have is that, under Michigan law, if you have "more than one" conviction, you cannot set aside (expinge) any conviction. You can only set aside your one and only conviction ... but you had 2: rape and kidnapping.

You should consult an attorney who handles expungments to go over your criminal history, and your options.
