Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi

There was a domestic dispute at my ex boyfriends mother's house. The cops put simple assault and malicious something or another.. Anyway, my ex put his hands on me and locked me out of the house after he kicked me out so that I wasn't able to get the rest of my things. I impulsively kicked the window in, I didn't expect it to break, and immediately apologized while I ran to my car for safety as he and his mother chased me. He grabbed my car door and wouldn't let go of it while his mother tried to close the automatic gate and lock me in. He told me if I tried to leave that he would rip the car door off. I was scared for my life and threw my car in reverse. He grabbed the door and bent it back as with all his might. I didn't get but three - four feet away from him when I stopped and pulled my door as close to my car as possible and went straight to the police. My car door can not shut, it's thousands in damages. The police said he had marks on his hands and he is claiming I beat his hands... I never touched him. I have bruises all over my body and pictures of red marks around my neck. This happened in the state of MS. I've already gotten in touch with a glass company to fix their window. I'm scared and I don't know what to do. Do I press charges to counter the possible charges they might press on me?
