Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi
Dropping Charges
I pressed charges against my childs father for breaking my car window out while my child was in the car. There is a warrant out for his arrest, is there any way that I could now drop the charges since he has promised to pay for my window and having it replaced.

Re: Dropping Charges
Contact the court clerk. There is usually a fee for dropping the charges. However, dropping the charges gives him greater control over your life and it appears to endanger your child and you.
If you are considering dropping charges because he has taken some sort of action to communicate a threat to you, contact law enforcement. A threat that puts on in reasonable apprehension of bodily harm is a misdemeanor assault.
Lastly, consider contacting a local minister for assistance in connecting with local societies (e.g. Women's shelter) that can advise and help you stay safe.
Re: Dropping Charges
Assuming that the pending charges are misdemeanors, you can usually accomplish this by contacting the police officer who filed the charges, though I don't recommend that the charges be dropped.
