Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi

theft accusation

I have recently been accused of taking deposits from my place of work. I know for fact that I deposited these items into the bank. The loss prevention guy is trying to get me to meet with him in person and states that the only way that we can resolve this matter is me admitting to taking something I didn't. What should I do.

Re: theft accusation

Second, find the deposit receipts and obtain written statements from anyone who can at least partially corroborate that you deposited the money. I recall a case where a manager was once convicted of stealing a night deposit. Years later, the night deposit bag was dislodged from where it hung up in the bank deposit shute. So also request that the bank conduct an investigation and an audit before any more evidence is lost.

Re: theft accusation

First: ALWAYS stick with the truth if you made the deposits. Second, hire a competent Attorney at once to accompany you to the meeting. Third, do NOT give any statement without first hiring counsel of your choice to defend you and to review the statement to ensure it is clear, unambiguous and that it states the facts as you know them. Fourth, REPEAT Step two above, hire an attorney immediately. If you took the money hire the attorney at once and follow his advice concerning whether or not to even meet with anyone else at this time. You need to hire counsel before you speak to the loss prevention representative.
