Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi

Yes,

My husband was a victim of a harsh crime on Christmas. Yesterday, the defendent called him with is apologies. The question at hand was: How did you receive my contact information? He informed my husband that the phone number as well as the address was on the police report from the local police station. Isn't this a violation of our protective rights. What if this man is really out to kill us?

Can a case/law suit be filed against the local police for furnishing private information about victims to the criminal at hand?

PROBABLY NOT BECAUSE POLICE HAVE "SOVEREIGN IMMUNITY" FROM THEIR OFFICIAL DUTIES EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT OF INSURANCE COVERAGE. HOWEVER, A COMPLAINT SHOULD DEFINITELY BE VOICED TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. ALSO YOU SHOULD NOTIFY THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND/OR THE POLICE ABOUT THIS CALL WHICH COULD BE CONSIDERED INTIMIDATION OF A WITNESS BY SOME.
