Adult Termination of Parental Rights

I am the adult child of an abusive mother. I would like to ensure that, should I be sick, injured, etc., she will never have the right to make any decisions concerning me or have any access to me. Is there any way for me as somebody over the age of 21 to terminate her parental rights without her consent? I am sure that she would not voluntarily do so.

Because you are now of age, there are no more parental rights. However, if she is your next of kin, if you were disabled or incapacitated, she could be the one in charge of making decisions for you about your welfare and/or healthcare. To avoid this pitfall, you should execute a health care power of attorney (a.k.a. advanced directive for health care) which not only states what you do and don't want done to you, but clearly designates who is and is not in charge or given the authority to make decisions. An attorney who handles wills & estates can generally handle this for you.
