Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Broken Engagement

My son's ex-finance is sueing him for a TV that was bought out of a marriage fund which had both of their names on it. She said she bought the TV for him.Her mother had put money in the account to use for the wedding. She broke the engagement after meeting someone else. The TV is at my son's house and he does not think he should have to return it because she has not returned any of the large items he bought her include a ring. He also signed for her to purchase a car because she had no credit. She said he owes her $900.00. Should he return the TV or does he have the right to keep it.

Re: Broken Engagement

Miss. is not very sympathic to the situation. He may be able to require return of the ring. As to division of the account and proceeds, law related to conversion and gifts will probably control. He needs to raise all his claims in a counterclaim. Alternatively, they can agree to have somebody abitrate or mediate between them.
