Re: name change

You would have to petition the court to change your name. It is not complicated, but there are procedures you must follow. The court wants to make sure that you are not changing your name to avoid creditors for example. I would suggest that you retain a lawyer to at least help you with the process, but you can do it on your own.

Re: name change

In Mississippi, the process is not complicated and is outlined beginning at section 41-57-21 of the Mississippi Code. You must file a petition with the Chancery Court and get court approval. You can do it yourself, but I recommend that you hire an attorney to assist you. Given the relative simplicity of the process, I would expect that you can get an attorney to do it for you for $500.00 or less.

Re: name change

I note that your post says you are now in Georgia, so you would be doing a name change here and not in Mississippi unless you now live there. The process is simple and inexpensive. Call my office at 404-768-3509 and I can find out more details.
