Having a child emancipates you from the legal disabilities of minority because you now have to make adult decisions for your child. If your decisions place the child at an unreasonable risk of neglect or abuse, the child will be taken from you. You will still need to obtain the court's decree of emancipation because not everyone will take your word that you are the mother of a child and because many people do not know that having a child causes emancipation.
