Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Child Support at my age

I have never received child support from my father and my mother never pursued it when I was a child. What are my chances of sueing my father for back child support now that I am 31 years old? It isn't the money but the principle of the matter. Thank You!

Re: Child Support at my age

Child support is money which is to be used to

support a child.

Your mother might have been entitled to child

support had she sought it.

If she never sought it, there is NO "back support."

You yourself were NEVER entitled to money for child support.

So you have NO possible suit against your father for "child support."

If possible, have a long long chat with your

mother about things past, such as why she never

sought support. She might not have needed it or

she might have believed herself responsible for

the events which occurred -- from inception of you to

the end of the marriage.

Your efforts should be better spent AND your

thoughts would be healthier and more productive

if

they were focussed on getting to know your father,

having a chat with him, too, and

perhaps constructing a wonderful father-daughter

relationship.

What would you really gain by suing your father?

Absolutely nothing. And your potential would

certainly have nothing to

do with principle, which you mistakenly believe

supports your desire to sue him.

You have no idea, I suspect, of

why he wasn't in your life. Have you ever seen a picture of him? Do you know who he is?

If he was in your

life and it slipped your mind to tell us, then. . . .
