how do i go by writing a petition for contempt for failure to pay childsupport

Writing the Petition is not the hard part, what comes later is. Just as it is fine to skip the doctor and give yourself some over the counter medication on occasion; you still don�t want to do your own surgery. Anyway, why would you? The party in contempt will likely be stuck with your attorney fees, that is, if you have any.
