It seems your question has to do with who will the court prefer as a conservator of the person for parent needing help. If the family cannot come to a consensus about such matters on their own, they should seek mediation by somebody they all reasonably trust. For example, a minister can be a big help in such matters. Alternatively, you might consider the help of a psychologist or other professional counselor. If a judge has to decide the matter, somebody will probably be appointed to investigate and make a recommendation. The judge's objective would be to act in the best interest of the aged parent. All other things substantially being equal, the judge would probably prefer a child over a grandchild as a conservator.
