Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Daughter given to me

I have a 12 y/o daughter. My ex wife and i have joint custody of her. My daughter has been wanting to come and live with my wife and myself. Her mother would not agree to this. Her mother apparently changed her mind and called us to come and get her this past week. We go and get her and even start her in school where we live. I am still paying child support as no legal changes have been made. What is the process i need to do to correct this situation.

Re: Daughter given to me

Congratulations! I hope this works out for your entire family. Its nice when parents can put the best interest of the child first and work out custody matters.

You need to file for a modification and that means you need an attorney. Since all parties are in agreement, this should be a nominal charge. If you cant find anyone locally (with your zip code, Im assuming your in Winona) that will do it reasonably, call my office. The Third Chancery Court District stretches from DeSoto County all the way down to Montgomery County. Your case can be heard in a county seat anywhere along the way.
