Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

grand children

I have been caring for three grandchildren for the best part of the last five years. The mother had made no contact with the children for the past seven months, not even a phone call. The father will not provide any support and will probably be in jail soon due to drugs. Three days ago the mom shows up and wants to take the kids for an outing and against my better judgement ,I allowed it. The oldest child is seven and the youngest is five. Needless to say, the mom has not returned the children and through investigation,we think she went to La. with them. She only took one clothes. Do I have any legal recource?

Re: grand children

Anybody can petition the court for guardianship of the children and wherever they lived for the past six months is their home for purposes of determining custody. It sounds like a case of parental neglect which would justify court intervention to protect the children.
