Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Grandparent rights

I am 21yo single mom. I have court order for child support and insurance only from DHS. My child's paternal grandmother has threatened me with asking for visitation rights. This would be OK except I have documentation of negligance when my child has been with them before. I have tried to work this out with her, but she says she cannot respect my wishes regarding rules for my child. Can she get unsupervised visition for herself? My child's father is $1300 behind in child support and does not have visition rights as of now and has been in trouble with law before. Can he get unsupervised visition?

Re: Grandparent rights

So long as the father is alive, the grandmother has no independent right of visition with the child. She would have to have the father assert his visitation rights and then use them in his place.

If there is evidence of negilgence, the court can make appropriate orders to restrict visitation by the father. The court must act in the child's best interest.
