Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Joint custody and child support

If I have joint custody of a child, does this mean that I do not have the right to demand child support? I do have primary custody of this child.

Re: Joint custody and child support

I am not familiar w/domestic law in Mississippi, however, most states have similar custodial theories. KS interprets Joint Custody to mean both parents have equal rights w/re to resolution of major decisions involving a child: e.g., education, major medical, religious instruction, etc.; you should check your jurisdiction. . .there should have been a calculation of child support upon final disposition of your case before the court. Generally a total of income available to both parents becomes a determination of a % of income of each to the whole times the amount your state determined it takes to raise a child per month pursuant to his or her age. Check with your local court.
