Jurisdiction change from one state to another

We have lived in Indiana for approx. three years. Visitation rights were granted from the State of Mississippi when we were still living there granting the father, we were never married, visitation rights and child support orders. Since then, we have moved to Indiana and are curious as to if and when we can change the Jurisdiction to Indiana and file for new custody changes/child support under Indiana laws. Also, the father continueously falls behind on child support and is currently 10 months behind and unemployed with a court order to drug rehab in the State of Mississippi. Wondering if this changes anything. Thank you.

Under the Uniform Child Custody and Jurisdiction Act, your new residence will be the proper forum for resolving custody and visitation questions. Child support questions will continue to be heard in Miss. Your local Dept. of Human Services Child Support Enforcement Div. can help you get regular child support by associating with the Miss. Dept. of Human Services. If long distance visitation will place the children in an unhealthy environment because of the father's drug addiction, you should have grounds for a change in visitation rights.
