Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

non-payment of alimony

For three years, I have been trying to get into a court room: my ex will not pay alimony. Our divorce case was assigned to a judge in another county because he was friends with the judge. We were scheduled to go back to court for a contempt of court charge against my ex to the judge who granted our divorce. He was not re-elected, and we had to be reassigned to another judge. With my ex's lawyer canceling two times, the judge canceling two other times, and my ex filing bankruptcy one time (which was dismissed), I still have not been in a courtroom. Asking for another judge involves being released by the present one. My lawyer thinks this will make her angry and will not release me. If she does release me, it will take five months for me to be reassigned. Do I have any other options?

Re: non-payment of alimony

I would suggest trying to garnish his wages in addition to contempt citations. It shouldn't take 5 months to get reassigned, but I do not know the circumstances or facts surrounding your case.
