If one's spouse leaves the other in financial need and refuses to return to the marital relationship, and the abandoned spouse is willing to have the other return, the abandoned spouse may receive separate maintenance and support from the other spouse until he or she returns. Its like temporary support for those who don't want to get a divorce or don't have grounds for divorce.
