Splitting travel cost for children

When i got divorced i lived within close distance of my children.I have custody 2 weekends each month.I am now stationed in Va. with the military and would like to see my children.Can i make my ex pay half the flight cost to bring my children up here.

In this case the move was involuntary so the court should require the parties to share the cost of visitation. I agree that you should first try to get a reasonable written modification agreement. Usually, each party bears the cost of transportation to his or her home. Otherwise, you can ask the court for a modification.

Generally, the party that moves away will be responsible for the transportation cost. For your ex to pay for a portion of the transportation cost would, in effect, reduce the child support you pay by that amount.

Perhaps you should seek a modification of visitation. Clearly the current arrangement is not working. You could ask for additional time in the summer and other times the children will be out of school. If your ex will not agree to this, I�m sure the court will not have a problem with granting you this modified visitation.
