Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Student loan.

In my divorce papers, I'm required to pay $800.00 a month child support, plus pay off my wifes student loan. I am now behind on child support. I really can't afford this payment. I can't afford an attorney. What should I do?

Re: Student loan.

You can either wait until she takes you to court which means you'll walk into court a "dead-beat" and depending on how far you are behind, the judge may let you set in jail a little while. Also, they may have the sheriff pick you up and hold you until court.

The best thing to do is take steps now so you can show up with "clean hands". If you can't afford an attorney, you'll need to handle it yourself which works sometimes. Call the court for details on proceeding pro se.
