Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

terminating parental rights/ adoption

Can I have my daughter's fathers rights terminated with him paying child support since he is $1500.00 behind and can my boyfriend adopt her with us not being married?

Re: terminating parental rights/ adoption

Without the childs father signing over his parental rights, the Court must appoint a Guardian ad Litem (likely at your expense) to represent the interest of your child. The child support he is behind will only be a minor factor in any decision; the Court will look more at what kind of parent he is.

I would not suggest you attempt an adoption without first marring your boyfriend. We are in the Bible belt after all. He will have little or no chance of a successful adoption otherwise.
