On 1/3/02 I received your msg posted 1/3/02. This response is not confidential and is based solely on the facts presented in your email. Also, it is not based on any supporting examination of the law. Instead, this response is based on my general experience, and resulting opinions. No attorney-client relationship is formed by this response.

There is a time limit on filing a response to the complaint for a modification if the summons is not a Rule 81 Summons. Normally Rule 81 Summons say they are Rule 81 Summons as part of the Summons' title. The body of the text will also say no formal response is necessary, and the document will be accompanied by an order setting the matter for a hearing. You need to consult with an attorney as soon as possible to ensure you have the time you need to negotiate. Often though, child support is based on the State guidelines and the negotiations are fairly straight forward. Also, any modifications must be based on the petitioner proving a substantial and material change of the child's circumstances has occurred which justifies any proposed change. Usually, an increase in your income will not by itself justify an increase.
